Learn how to securely access your Ledger hardware wallet and protect your cryptocurrency assets with hardware-level security.
Unlike traditional software wallets, Ledger uses hardware-based security. Your authentication happens through your physical Ledger device, not through passwords or biometrics stored on your computer.
Ledger Live never stores passwords or private keys on your computer or mobile device. All authentication and transaction signing happens through your physical Ledger hardware wallet, providing maximum security against malware and hackers.

Full wallet access
Connect your Ledger device via USB or Bluetooth to access all features including sending transactions and account management.
View your portfolio and transaction history without connecting your device. No transactions allowed in this mode.
Use Ledger Live Mobile with Bluetooth connectivity (Nano X) for on-the-go access and transactions.
Open the Ledger Live application on your desktop or mobile device. The app starts in read-only mode, showing your portfolio balance without requiring device connection.
When you need to perform transactions (sending crypto, staking, swapping), connect your Ledger device:
Your Ledger device will prompt you to enter your 4-8 digit PIN code using the device buttons. The PIN entry is randomized for security - follow the layout shown on your device screen.
Ledger Live will detect your device and show a connected status. You can now access all features including sending transactions, staking, and managing accounts.
All sensitive actions require physical verification on your Ledger device screen. Always verify addresses and transaction details on your device before confirming.
Use a strong 8-digit PIN that's difficult to guess. Never use simple sequences (1234) or personal information. The randomized PIN entry prevents keyloggers from capturing your PIN pattern.
Your 24-word recovery phrase is your master key. Store it offline in multiple secure locations. Never digitalize, share, or store it in cloud services. This phrase can restore your entire wallet.
Always verify receiving and sending addresses on your Ledger device screen. This prevents malware from substituting malicious addresses. Never trust addresses shown only on your computer screen.
Keep your Ledger device firmware updated. Regular updates include security patches and new features. Use Ledger Live's Manager to install updates when available.
Verify your Ledger device is genuine during setup. Only purchase from official Ledger website or authorized resellers. Genuine devices display "Welcome" or "Configure as new device" on first use.
Use Ledger Live on a secure computer with updated antivirus software. Avoid public computers and untrusted networks for crypto transactions. Enable firewall protection.

Ledger will never ask for your 24-word recovery phrase. Never enter your recovery phrase anywhere except on your Ledger device during recovery or setup. Beware of phishing websites, fake support agents, and fraudulent applications asking for your recovery phrase. Your recovery phrase should only be stored physically in secure locations.
